For every Chinese New Year, we get brand new lion dance costumes and before their first performances, they must be awakened.
This involves painting dots onto the lions as a symbol of life-giving:
Dot the eyes so that the lions can see.
Dot the nose so that they can smell.
Dot the mouth so that the lions can eat.
Dot the ears so that they can hear the beat of the drum.
Finally, dot down their bodies from head to tail to ensure that they are brought to life!
