A “Rise Up!” self-esteem building camp was organized by Empathy For Youth and conducted through Zoom by emotional literacy experts Illya Sumanto and Azzad Mahdzir-Sariza, a therapeutic art practitioner. A rollercoaster of emotions, driven by all the uncertainties during the current pandemic can create fertile ground for self-doubt, fear, and insecurity. This camp focused on helping our children unpack their fears, shame, and insecurities to build self-resilience and gain confidence.
For young people, telltale signs include:
🔹Mood swings
🔹Change in regular sleep/eating habits
🔹Habits such as nail-biting, thumb-sucking, or hair-pulling/chewing
🔹Physical ailments such as stomach aches & headaches.
In this camp, they learned:
🔸How to enhance and protect healthy self-esteem
🔸Understand the source of their fear, insecurity & self-doubt
🔸Healthy coping skills when dealing with life’s challenges
Activities include:
🔸Therapeutic art
🔸Mask-play
🔸Creative writing
🔸Breathing techniques for confidence
